An API (Application Program Interface) enables an interface from a piece of software to communicate with another piece of software (in its simplest form) or multiple pieces of software (called a mashup). Search for restaurants in Google and Google Maps shows up with the various restaurants on the map. Wikipedia capabilities?

Time for these vendors to wake up, or see your audience share disappear. Wiki- looks nothing like Wikipedia. Wikipedia that actually looks like Wikipedia – 100%, they use mediawiki kit – available for free. Mashups and APIs (again, some people in the social media space, see them as social media types).

As learning designers, it’s impossible to learn, know, and keep up with all the advancements and innovations in our industry, but I do think it is important to be aware of the ever-changing landscape. What other technologies do you envisage to power up such interactive videos to make them more powerful and natural?

I found myself using Wikipedia early in research tasks on all sorts of topics. Authoring in eLearning 2.0 / Add-ins & Mash-ups What do you see as the biggest challenges for 2007? Discussion will emerge/increase that SCORM doesn't fit next generation learning. I lost the argument. In the long run, they'll lose.

Contrary to what we’d like to believe, social learning doesn’t always start at the training department and work its way up, quite the opposite. In order for social media platforms to totally eclipse the function an LMS plays, they would be forced to support interoperability standards like SCORM, AICC or Common Cartridge.
