Best Learning Systems for 500 or less learners

eLearning 24-7

1,000 is the magic number for a lot of vendors. There are vendors that unless you have a minimum of 1,000 end-users (regardless if they are employees, customers, etc.) That is another “sweet spot” for quite a few vendors. vendors) have Chia Pets sitting on their desk.

They so buy into it, as the best way to learn X or Y, that there is a movement to add synchronous-based learning, back in the day, we referred to SBL as sticking the classroom teaching method online. The acronym stood for Learning Experience Platform. Micro-Learning.

Corporate LMS Forecasts 2018

eLearning 24-7

What some folks will do, vendor wise, is tie-in the skills driven angle with their system itself or within the KRT. When a vendor does this, the “must complete it” it tells me they were/are unaware of why WBT and online learning was designed in the first place. as the key indicators for DL (aka as machine learning in the consumer world). A few vendors have recognized the value of adding other variables if you will, with skills being the primary.

What I like

eLearning 24-7

I thought first around something like the Truth they don’t want you to know, then realized that some vendors would push back and say that isn’t true, which gets back to the original statement. There are going to be salespeople who do not even work for the vendor.

Learning Experience Platform – WRONG

eLearning 24-7

I totally dislike the term, “learning experience platform” It really makes no sense, because anything and everything we do, can turn into a learning experience. I put together a tiny list (three) on learning experiences that I “learned” in just the last week: One of my dogs, Voodoo has “learned” that if he digs a deep hole he will find the gopher tunnel, because he hears them. Thus, a learning experience. The players.

I mention all this, because there is always plenty of items to talk about in the e-learning space, and for this post, all around those wonderful learning systems. Learning is a cash cow in the e-learning industry. Yes, vendors think L&D and Training are the same.

The Learning Systems to Watch in 2022

eLearning 24-7

I see a lot of learning systems in any given year. Each of them, declaring themselves as a “star”, as a shining representative of outstanding learning or training or some combo of the two. I believe there are plenty of learning systems out there, waiting to be found.

Types of Learning Systems

eLearning 24-7

There is no better place to see this then our fine world of e-learning, which was devised to be an umbrella term for everything that is well, online learning. An LMS thus is under e-learning. e-learning. e-learning. Nowadays though, vendors have changed the message to mean e-learning as in e-learning courses and not an umbrella term. . On the learning system side, I see it all too well. Micro-learning platforms?

LMS dot.com 3.0?

eLearning 24-7

I like Grovo as a product, but their pitch as the original micro-learning platform (read in one press release) is a twist on reality – great marketing, but really? This is because any vendor/platform/system could provide micro-learning since the start of the LMS space in the late 90’s. Heck, I was building micro courses in 2000 and my cloud based LMS hosted them just fine. I told them, vendors were offering this in 2000.

Top 10 Authoring Tools for 2017

eLearning 24-7

Ok, with that being done, let me list the vendors who are in the final ten and then break it all down for you. I admit the first time I saw the word, I read it out online as something else. Anyway, the tool is nice and they were the first vendor to have try voice synch with the avatars. Every other e-learning tool today has higher SaaS than one sector – authoring tools. That whole adaptive learning thing you hear pitched from vendors is somewhat misleading.

Association Learning System Rankings

eLearning 24-7

The Association market is by far, IMO, one of the top three markets, that as a vendor, you should be in. However, a professional association may also allow companies to be members too, and sometimes, there are vendors who are members referred to in the industry as “associate members” (but the vernacular can be different). Rankings for Learning Systems. A new method/approach, that I believe will be very valuable to consumers and vendors alike. .

RIP Gamification

The answer was never in gluing gimmicks to the same old training content, it was in making an actual game that helps people learn through play. No, you need a full experience that’s impossible to ignore, stuffed with Booster Games and micro-learning games and all kinds of goodness!

My forecasts for 2017

eLearning 24-7

People do not want traditional LMSs; they want streamlined learning platforms. Yes , there are plenty of folks who are seeking a learning platform or other subsets of LMSs, but when you look at the $$$, the LMSs as a whole are far outweighing learning platforms. . Just last week, I saw a feature from an LMS vendor that I surmise will a)change the industry, b) left me stunned in a great way. MOOCs and more importantly vendors, like Coursera, will lead the market.

NexGen Tier2 Learning Systems

eLearning 24-7

A year ago I wrote about NexGen functionality in any learning system. The reason behind it was simply that so many vendors pitch they are NexGen (often referring to it as Next Generation), when in fact, they are not. This is to say, that any learning system vendor who tells you they are NexGen, should have Tier 1 functionality (in its entirety or at least 60% of it). If there was any learning system that screams going NexGen it is them. . online learning) too.

LMS is not dead (again)

Litmos

Yes, the posts on the Net continue to tell me that the LMS and thus its market is dead, which is ironic when you consider that more companies are coming into the space than leaving and that the learning system space now exceeds 1,300 on the global scale, and that most of them, the overwhelmingly large chunk, are LMSs. In fact, the statement of more coming in than leaving is directly referring to learning management systems. Want a learning engagement platform? It’s dead. .

Immersive Learning, VR, AR, MR

eLearning 24-7

Rather, because what I believe will be the impact of immersive learning in the training, L&D industry. I’ve talked about changing e-learning to represent digital learning of all forms. Because sliding such an impactful form of learning under one all umbrella doesn’t identify this form of learning to its true potential. Thus, I see the forms of learning as two separate parts. When do u buy an LEP?

eLearning 24-7

LEP is the acronym for an learning engagement platform, which is a subset of a learning system. Some folks refer to LEP as an LXP, which as noted in a previous post the term “learning experience” does a major disservice to the platforms and what they can do in comparison to an LMS or other types of learning systems. . Regardless of my peeve on such statements, the fact is that LEPs serve a purpose in the e-learning industry. E-Learning 24/7.
