A Look Back at E-Learning in 2012

eLearning 24-7

Mobile Learning. Sadly though many still are in the dark on true mobile learning – i.e. not accessing their platform via a mobile web browser. Web Conferencing – You would think that all these services would have a native app for tablets. Despite overall consumer demand (not just within e-learning) for tablets, and numbers showing that tablets are outselling notebooks, e-learning vendors as whole are sitting back and waiting.

M-Learning: Where’s the app for that?

eLearning 24-7

With all these vendors talking about their solution and its capabilities on mobile devices, it should be easy to find an app for that. Regardless if the vendor is m-learning specific, content authoring tool, LMS, web conferencing or a hybrid. If your telling me your solution is mobile ready, then all I should need to do is go iTunes or Android and find your app. Nowadays more and more vendors (thankfully) are seeing the benefit of mobile devices. 5 E-Learning Forecasts for 2012

eLearning 24-7

They involved talent management, “hello and goodbye” with vendors, social learning, upswing in mobile learning, new feature sets in the authoring tool space, flat lining in web conferencing and standalone platforms. LMSs/LCMS/CMS/learning platforms in commercial and open space continued their presence. There are consumer locations that have implemented augmented reality without using a mobile device to view it. Social Learning.

Latest E-Learning Trends – Some good, some bad

eLearning 24-7

A trend that is happening in the LMS market more so than in the other e-learning markets, is the failure to follow their path of success. After all, if you can create a couple of APIs that provide strong social learning functionality, and the LMS vendor offers an add-on for social learning, do they really want you to put yours in? Buyers and Sellers of courses who can then use the course in any learning management system, so they are not tied to one LMS, is happening.

E-Learning Trade Shows. People in the booth that actually know the product inside and out – I’m surprised on how this continues to be a problem at a lot of e-learning shows; some companies stock their booths with people who are very nice, but really do not have any knowledge on the product, beyond what they read on the product sheet they are handing you. All the vendors listed below, a mini review of their product will be posted on the E-Learning 24/7 Linkedin Group.

Attention LMSs – I’m mad as…

I’m calling out Saba. That’s right, Saba and their wonderful salesperson HSwidget (name withheld). I contacted Saba and dealt with some really good salespeople. End result – no business for him or Saba. I know they are going to say, “well we need to add their graphics, skin it to match their web site or whatever they want and blah blah” Got it. If your system has had problems with 3rd party web conferencing tools, tell me.

Types of Learning Systems

eLearning 24-7

There is no better place to see this then our fine world of e-learning, which was devised to be an umbrella term for everything that is well, online learning. An LMS thus is under e-learning. e-learning. e-learning. Nowadays though, vendors have changed the message to mean e-learning as in e-learning courses and not an umbrella term. . On the learning system side, I see it all too well. Micro-learning platforms? Learning Platforms?

2010: mLearning Year in Review

mLearning Trends

As we reach the first anniversary of this blog’s introduction, we thought we’d take stock and figure out how things are going by revisiting our list of predictions for enterprise mobile learning in 2010. In fact, each of the “Four Horsemen” who rule the enterprise – namely SumTotal , Saba , Plateau & Geolearning – gave it a go in some way although no one outside their immediate customers or PR agencies seemed to notice. Mobile learners will begin to expect (and demand!)

You will not forget them when you view a demo, nor when you are looking at the company’s web site or literature. I often hear people say they want mobile learning in their solution, social learning, e-commerce, but when you ask for specifics they sometimes have a blank stare on their face. Because it is just a feature, just as mobile learning is a feature – that comes with the system. E-Learning 24/7. Welcome, Welcome.

Okay, before jumping in, I want to thank all those who attended my session, E-Learning 2020. . I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . I just can’t understand the “bricks and mortar” approach so many e-learning vendors use, unreal. The mobile app.

The need for a dedicated learning solution in changing times. In his masterpiece Future Shock, Alvin Toffler has noted how the most literate persons of 21st century will not be those who can read or write, but those who can “learn, unlearn and relearn.”. Learning is getting experiential. Organizations are smart enough to see through this shift — traditional course-based learning is on its way out, skill-based learning is creeping in! Learning happens on demand.
