Cornerstone – assuming you buy every module HCM. SumTotal – you buy every mod – HCM. Best to purchase multiple modules from them – LMS, Engage and Analytics. You are buying them for their elite compliance and regulatory feature sets, not for social which is lacking nor NexGen which is lacking.

SumTotal for example did a nice revamp, but their reporting is super outdated. If I play heavily in FS for example (say 75% or higher) then my social features usually will not be the same as someone who plays in retail. Then, there are those who do a nice revamp for one part, and the UX on the other hand is poor. Jasper has to go. .

I identify the Big Dogs as SumTotal by Skillsoft (yes, that is the actual name), Cornerstone OnDemand, Saba, SucessFactors and Oracle Taleo (although, I ask myself who is using this and if you still are why?). I say this, and you can see it yourself, buy seeing all the modules available. SumTotal by Skillsoft. But I digress.

The whole “non-traditional” push or more importantly, when a vendor says “traditional” implies that their system is not like Cornerstone, SumTotal, and alike. Social is a mixed bag. Yeah, no kidding. Especially since those systems target a completely different learning landscape and each one is a soft HCM. .

A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. New features in this space include workforce management, compensation/payroll and benefits as part of their modules. I am projecting that by the end of 2012, you will see HRIS features come into play, but more so as an additional cost module. Why more features on the side of HR?

I mean, they are more to me a HCM, which includes modules such as learning. . Neither of which by the way are traditional. But the LMS space as a whole? Not true. .

I love their playlists capability and their coach/share module is wonderful (it is part of the Enterprise system version), but you can also purchase it as a standalone if you say, buy just the base version and not enterprise. The perform, which should be IMO rebranded as Skills module, is very good too. Marketplace is good too.

9 SumTotal Learn – UI/UX is strong. It is a standalone module (not a fan of that), but if you go Enterprise they include it in the quote. I love the social playlists they offer, and the ability for folks to build their own subscription package, but you cannot build such packages ahead of time to sell, so that is a fix needed.

Skills module very good – from data visualization that will tell you the necessary learning story to Skills frequency chart, top skills and top skills with a specific role or topic.
