Product Review: Mzinga OmniSocial

eLearning 24-7

I’m on my way to get a car that enables me to launch a robust social learning system. OmniSocial is a social learning platform, with learning management capabilities and with the ability to select individual apps in the system and only use those you select to install onto your web site or learning portal. Because it offers the capability to start out using it either as the robust social learning product and ignore the LMS part (inc.

LMSs that kick ass: Mzinga

Janet Clarey

This is the seventh featured system in my Friday series highlighting LMSs that are doing innovative, kick-ass things with social media. Mzinga is the result of a merger between KnowledgePlanet and Shared Insights at the end of 2007. My more recent contact at Mzinga is Dave Wilkins. I spoke with Dave via email about what Mzinga is doing with social media. Q: What social media tools is Mzinga incorporating into their LMS? It’s Friday yay!

MZinga - Engaged in the conversation!

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

MZINGA created a "set" of 20 images capturing their event experience. I did not get a chance to see the MZINGA booth, I was not able to attend their session, and I did not talk with any of the workers on site. mZinga is a social media company and they understand the power of the medium. While I did not meet Mzinga at the show, every time I go check out the PageFlakes page, I am reminded of mzinga because "BANG" there are the picks in the Flickr feed box.

expo (part of the time with fellow miscreant Jay Cross ), and it led me to think a bit more about social media tools and approaches. We were prompted to visit Blue Kiwi , which is probably the leading European social media platform. Mzinga is clearly targeted at the learning space, being integrated with an LMS. Vignette , on the other hand, started as a CMS for KM, but then added social media around it. Tags: social I spent yesterday touring the Web 2.0

Formal learning & social networking

Clark Quinn

is about informal learning, but the organization was moving to using social networking tools to scaffold their move from face-to-face to more online learning. So I was asked to talk about social networking and formal learning. That is, the first reason to use social networking around formal learning is to make it part of the repertoire of the community. I then segued to my second point, which is that social networking tools are better formal learning.

LMS and Social Learning

Tony Karrer

As a follow on to the discussion of social learning and formal learning in Long Live … great post by BJ Schone - Have LMSs Jumped The Shark? We’ve recently seen LMSs shift to include more functionality, such as wikis, blogs, social networking, etc. And when it comes to social networking, as a co-worker put it, “Do they really think I’m going to create a ‘friends’ list in the LMS? There's social learning wrapped around the formal learning resources.

Social Learning and LMSs Marketplace

eLearning 24-7

As social learning continues to grow, LMS/LCMS vendors are taking various approaches. While some view themselves as “social learning&# savvy, incorporating various components, others seem to see themselves as just sitting on the sidelines. LMS/LCMS vendors are following one of three approaches when it comes to social learning. Dip their feet in it – just a bit, a little here, a little there – oh and call it a full social learning platform.

Communities / Social Networking and LMS Merger

Tony Karrer

I've not seen a lot about Mzinga in the eLearning world, but it represents something pretty interesting. Mzinga is a merger of KnowledgePlanet (an LMS provider and also the maker of the eLearning simulation tool - Firefly) and Shared Insights - a community / business social networking software company. The top execs at Mzinga are not the top execs from KnowledgePlanet. I wonder if mzinga does?

Conflicting personas: social media as an ‘AND’ role (initially titled ‘AND’ job which is entirely inappropriate, even for this blog)

Janet Clarey

Significance

Clark Quinn

My ongoing question has been about transitioning from wrapping social networking around formal learning to being members of communities of practice. In the CLT, Dave Wilkins of Mzinga talked about the ‘Amazon’ model of tools around a learning resource (as a formal learning model) and the community model of tools embedded in a community.

What is to Come in 2008

The Learning Circuits

Social Networking is hitting the corporate scene, driving tremendous demand for informal learning, or what we call "learning on-demand." The CoP companies we talk with tell us that their businesses are booming (Tomoye and Mzinga being two which focus heavily in this space). As I read the blog I'd like to post a few updates on our research and predictions for e-learning in 2008.
