If one was to look at the e-learning industry (online learning), learning systems make up the biggest share of the space. They have been around as long as online learning has existed. Heck, even before we had online learning, and courses were CBT (Computer Based Training), you could find 3rd party course providers. . Difference?

When they went course aggregator, I saw them as a nice alternative to Skillsoft who was off acquiring other course providers including NetG and then down the road, Element K. I always say it as a dated, archaic system that made SharePoint look like a revolutionary solution for the masses for online learning (it’s not).

If you want to know more about Second Life, you can jump into the world and attend classes sponsored by NETg. As the online economy grows within Second Life, their are many chances to make money and contribute within the Second Life envrionment (as an instructor for example.)

full disclosure - As some of you may know, I joined Thomson NETg in January to run one of their strategic business units called Collaboration (essentially what was KnowledgeNet whom they acquired in late 2004). Very exciting (at least to me) but what I need is your feedback on a tool that Thomson NETg developed which I think is a hidden gem.

But, all those items can be delivered via online learning. . At one time, it was the biggest brand out there, and a vendor who bought up other well-known content providers such as NetG and ElementK. Learning a foreign language is a popular subject for folks to take online. Skillsoft is another brand name.
