They involved talent management, “hello and goodbye” with vendors, social learning, upswing in mobile learning, new feature sets in the authoring tool space, flat lining in web conferencing and standalone platforms. Expect a few commercial vendors to jump into the augmented reality space for e-learning. These vendors, I believe will consist of: Vendors who offer an authoring tool or game sim and will develop additional product lines tied to Augmented Reality.

How many of you have seen vendors respond to your questions? A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. Mobile learning – it might surprise you to know that 75-80% of all systems in the space, currently do not offer any type of mobile learning, the number goes up even higher for online/offline synch. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors).

SCORM compliance and/or AICC – there are tools out there who support neither – but that is not the norm and there are a few tools out there who also support PENS. Rapid Intake m-Learning Studio - Strong solution for the masses and developers, forward thinking approach, they also offer an online/offline product called m-Learning synch which includes a mobile learning online platform, rather than connecting to your LMS. Or the demand from themselves, the vendors.

A few vendors say “social learning” but it is often far from it. AICC, SCORM and PENS support. I’m always amazed at some of the names vendors come up with for authoring tools. Well besides my rankings of course, think about this: 1st vendor to offer collaboration and peer review. 1st vendor to have online/offline mobile synch. 1st vendor IMO to truly have HTML5 output.

While it is true that there are vendors who are pure online proctoring solutions, it would seem to me, that having it as part of a learning management or platform is a better route then just a self-contained OP solution. In the end, no matter what type of security you setup, if someone really wants to cheat even with a 360 web cam that the vendor provides, it can be done. Most tend to be proprietary, but I have seen a few that are SCORM/AICC and yes even PENS.

When you see many of these awards from organizations – the general mass of them (but not all of them) require the vendor/company to submit an application for whatever category or categories. There is never any pay for play here – even my vendor clients are aware that they may not win best of the best. Identifies the best of the best and now identifies vendors who offer a reader discount when you purchase their product.
