LMS Products of the Year 2010. A lot of great products out there this year, new updates and latest versions; new companies, new services and just some real innovation. I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Big Dog (Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, Cornerstone OnDemand, Learn.com). With its m-learning capability including on/off synch and rather solid UI, the product continues to be an effective solution. While the pricing is outrageous and the Saba as a whole seems better suited as a HCM, their learning suite is a better alternative than those who want Cornerstone OnDemand. Feature wise the product is impressive. The product is always cutting edge and their mobile is outstanding. Despite some sales hiccups, this is a wonderful product.

My source tells me that this new version is in production as we speak. For folks who use their product, I was told by a salesperson that xAPI is not on their radar, nor is any type of on/off synch mobile app. . Considering that the rest of their product was live on various computers, I’m a little confused. Again, if the “Experts” don’t know what it is or why it can be useful, what does that say about the product – from a learning perspective?

When reviewing systems, you’ll find that a key differentiator of this system is that it is homegrown and not an integration of several outside products. The WebPad will give employees the ability to have their own web portal that is completely customizable, much like a Facebook or MySpace account. That said, there are a lot of products, features and functions coming into the LMS market that, honestly, have no value to a learning and development pro. A: Roy Haythorn - No guarantee it’ll happen in three years, but I’d like to see all LMSs tightly integrated with portals.
