So sometimes I keep it open. I don’t need to save a PDF of slides or email them a copy of my PPT presentation. Keeping the sidebar visible is a great way to let the people know where we’re at and where we’re going. But it’s easy enough to collapse the sidebar and only show it when I have to.

For the first step, start Microsoft term, click File, open and select the files you need to edit, and right click on the document and choose Save As. Be sure that you save the document in doc format (doc, xls, ppt, etc) otherwise, the Word will not be able to read it.

Double-click the zip folder to open it. Open the ppt folder. Doing so will allow you to open the file in PowerPoint again. Locate the media folder and drag it (or copy and paste it) elsewhere (your desktop or another folder). All of the sound and image files used in the presentation will be inside this folder.

Here’s a tip I’ve learned about stripping the audio out of the PPT file … from here: Save the PowerPoint file as a PPTX file. Open the extracted files. In Windows explorer change the file suffix from ‘ pptx’ to ‘ zip’ Extract the files from the ZIP file.

Once you’ve chosen a video resolution, you’ll see a new window open showing the progress of the compression. Open the zip file and you’ll be greeted with a lot of unfriendly looking folders. Go into the ppt folder and there are even more unfriendly folders. Check your video after it’s compressed to make sure it still looks good.
