The initial person who thought buying SumTotal was a great idea (initially it was) and then dumped it for a fortune to Skillsoft (another great idea), which in turn was someone at Skillsoft thinking this was a great idea, which turned out to be false and was a factor in Skillsoft going into bankruptcy due to the albatross known as SumTotal.

There are three types of systems that slide under “learning platforms” The most common one supports PowerPoint, and videos and other content – and can track it, but they DO NOT support any version of SCORM, nor do they support AICC, PENS, Tin Can and so on. So you have to use their authoring tool to create courses.

Course standards include xAPI and PENS, besides the standards of SCORM. . No, but then again, this is an issue with many course providers including Lynda.com and Skillsoft. . Uses intelligence components for content authoring with dynamic themes that take care of the details for you. Publish directly to an LMS and LRS if you so choose.

The only standards it does not work with is PENS and CMI-5). (YES) – apps are in iOS and Google Play. Definitely someone to watch for 2020. . #9

You want a system that has e-commerce that accepts PayPal, can generate invoices and track sales - pickings are limited – specifically because of the “generate invoices” and “track sales” You desire a system that offers PENS - Choices are dropping like flies after you whack them with your fly swatter or newspaper.

In 2005, PENS was launched by AICC but did not initially gain wide acceptance. In the past year, I have seen a wider number of vendors including the PENS course standard, which in my opinion, enables anyone who builds courses, a streamlined and fast process for publishing into a LMS/learning platform.
