Personal Learning - Corporate Environment

Learning Rocks

So far at work I've managed to avoid mentioning the TLA "PLE", mostly to avoid the blank stares and potential ostracism. For me, the most important technological component in all this is RSS, really simple syndication, the bit that makes the blogs work and what feeds my Google homepage - the start of my own PLE. I'd love to know so I could help these guys get the solution that suits them best, and examples of people like them getting the learning right would really help.

Why It's Time to Dump Your LMS for a PLE [Infographic]

In addition to less than inspiring visuals, most LMSs don’t offer individualized learning paths. Instead they push users through a rigid, one-size-fits-all course structure -- hardly an optimal experience in the age of hyper personalization. Most LMSs are only capable of tracking participate and pass/fail, which isn’t enough to evaluate the efficacy of your program -- let alone link it to business results. You walk into work, sit down at your desk and fire up your computer.

Learning Space Mash-up: Toward a Collaborative Personal Learning Environment

Learning with e's

One of the papers I will be presenting in September is entitled: "Learning Space Mash-up: Toward a Collaborative Personal Learning Environment". It will be presented in the special track on Mashups and Education at this year's Interactive Computer Aided Learning Conference , which as usual, is held in the beautiful Alpine town of Villach, in Austria. Off the rails?

Learning with 'e's

There is no deviation from the track (unless there is a disaster and there is a derailment - trains run on the rails), and generally there is a prescribed timetable that dictates the schedule of arrivals and departures of all trains in the network. Some prefer to travel in a taxi, or even by using their own personal transport. This is a metaphor for personalised learning, with the personal learning environment supporting an individual's learning.

4 Key Emerging Trends in LMS

Upside Learning

Today, after the rapid evolution of the LMS – hastened by several factors, right from the inclusion of social learning tools, to an ever increasing need for usability – many things have changed, and still continue to change, in the LMS. This trend will benefit not only large companies but even the smallest of the learning organizations. 2.Personal Learning Environment (PLE). These figures underline growing dependency on games to attend the learning goal.

6 Emerging Technologies in Education

It certainly is an exciting time to be involved with learning and technology. Virtual learning environments are one example of cloud computing. One example is a group of K-12 students using an iPhone to gather and track GPS-tagged bird sightings for a WildLab proram. Gaming - Using game-based learning scenarios allows for experimentation, the exploration of identities, and even failure in a safe environment.

I have made it up over the Alps by train into the sleepy Austrian town of Villach, where we hold the annual Interactive Computer Aided Learning Conference (ICL). Every year the ICL conference seems to be veering more toward e-learning and away from computer science, which I think is a good thing. We need to concentrate more on the learning and less on the technology - more on the pedagogy and less on 'this is the technology and this is what it does'.

What is in store for the LMS Space: My Forecasts for 2016

eLearning 24-7

After spending quite a bit of time examining the market, tracking the data and following the industry – on a global scale – I’ve identified a series of forecasts, some of which are presented below. Then, the administrator could include the video as part of the training/learning in the course catalog or assigned courses to individual or multiple learners. Video tracking. Personally, everyone should do it – makes so much sense. Deep learning. .

One more thing worth mentioning is learner tracking. This platform gives learners a lot of agency in their education, as they can construct their own personal learning environment (PLE). Wooclap works for distance learning as well as live learning.

Do You WANT an LMS? Does a Learner WANT an LMS?

Tony Karrer

I believe we are poised to see this happen in the world of the Learning Management Systems (LMS). I think that folks who are in the Personal Learning Environment (PLE) space have a much better idea of what will come next. In fact, many of us have all created our own Personal Learning Environment by cobbling together using a variety of tools (RSS Reader, Bookmarking, Social Networking, Desktop Search, Web Search, Personal Learning Blog, To Do Lists).
