TechKnowledge 2012 – Post Assessment

eLearning 24-7

Nice selection of vendors – in general. More goodies then in the past, but the vendor with the awesome monkeys – it was nearly impossible to get one – you had a better chance of allowing them to stick leeches on you, then getting one – what’s the point of marketing – if the product you want to show – yours – isn’t walking the floor with folks. Less vendors scanning people’s ID badges, which I found interesting.

The Latest: Rapid Content Authoring Tool Market

eLearning 24-7

I am still surprised on how vendors who are offering assessment only tools are staying in the game. PowerPoint – Ability to integrate or use PPT in your courses. Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. The latter is slowly gaining speed, which is an advantage to LMS vendors who have a CAT in their own product – which is SCORM,PENS/IMS compliant. Vendor adoption is slow.

Open Source Web Conferencing Solutions – FREE

eLearning 24-7

I have a real issue with vendors who charge extra – via a license with their “partner&# or otherwise for a web conferencing – and thus ability to offer webinars, in their solution. Meetings24.tv - free up to 24 users, limited features in the freebie version, other options available but are fee based. SlideLive - upload a ppt and away u go, targets Academia - SAAS. If you want more power, have to purchase Pro version.

Break it down! (No it’s not Hammer Time! Yet)

eLearning 24-7

For whatever reason- okay to try to set themselves apart – some vendors have created the term “training management” Honestly, they could call it “online authoring system with a few reports and no frills” and it would be the same thing. The downside to training management products is the inability to upload any other 3rd party authoring tool or courses from an off the shelf vendor. Yeah, you can upload word docs, PPT, etc. During the past 14.5

Product Review: Mindflash.com

eLearning 24-7

Each PowerPoint slide appears in order, following your PPT order. For example: your first PPT slide is on the timeline then you add a word document, next an image file, another slide (your 2nd one in the deck u uploaded), then audio/movie and so on. ppt slide, quiz, image, etc.). You can upload the photo of the person (listed as trainer) for the course, which end users will see, their name and e-mail address. Photo is optional.

Product Review – Articulate Storyline 2

eLearning 24-7

I mean the first Storyline, sweet and then here comes a new version, from a company not known to push out new products for a period of years – must rock. Screams more like an advanced sequel to Studio than a robust new version of Storyline 2.

Tool Issue: XMind, WorldMapper, Balsamiq, VoiceThread, EtherPad, and Flowgram

Mark Oehlert

Flowgram - If you've tried to use MSFT's Producer to marry up PPT with audio, notes, etc.then stop. You can create 'flows' of web pages, photos, etc (great review here ). This is maybe a less intimidating version of some of the functionality embedded in VoiceThread (below).

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: E-Learning Project Reality: Guerrilla Instructional Design

Learning Visions

I capture all of their comments, make revisions, and send out an updated version. Ive done some wireframes in PPT, but I keep coming back to Word. Cammy Beans Learning Visions Musings on eLearning, instructional design and other training stuff.

Rethinking conferences

Jay Cross's Informal Learning

The basic structure of one-way presentations, flying to convention cities, blowing an entire week at a time, and vendors going through the motions but getting few sales is counter to the culture and M.O. Note : The vintage photos in this post are from training conferences circa 2000.
