10 Reasons to Use Illustrations Instead of Stock Photography in Learning

eLearningMind

The grinning woman eating a salad; the perfectly multicultural meeting; the man with a headset: these are the standards for stock photography. And while it definitely has its place, stock photography isn’t the gold standard when it comes to learning. Photography puts real people in front of learners, and their own unconscious biases could affect the connection (or lack thereof) they feel. Learners can sense stock photography from a mile away.

Why Management Needs to Change

The Peformance Improvement

Of the many factors that contributed to their demise, their slowness or inability to change the way they managed people played a major role. Kodak’s moment happened when senior management refused to look at digital photography as a disruptive technology. And while human employees still apply the toppings according to the customer’s wishes, it’s only a matter of time before they cede that role, too.

The past tense of open badges

E-Learning Provocateur

So an applicant who has earned badges for digital photography techniques and advanced Photoshop operations would be an obvious candidate. Some commentators are heralding open badges as the nemesis of the college degree. I don’t quite see it that way.

Having just reached a major milestone birthday (I'll leave you to figure out whether that's 30 or 40), I feel justified in reflecting on the role that blogging is likely to play in the years to come. I've just made major investments in three new all-consuming hobbies - photography, video and piano playing - and I need time to make sure I get a good return on all three.

Sales management is a leadership role, and without a sales manager providing additional training, development and coaching, the sales force will slip back into old behaviors immediately. Each year was a “transformation,” and each year, the sales force was informed that it was required to change.

Meeting unreasonable needs

It’d be one way to ‘teach photography’ instead of ‘the camera’ Of course, I also recommend teaching ‘the model’, not the software *nor* the task. I feel for the person in the situation of having to do a particular role when the ‘received wisdom’ about how to do it is at odds with what really is useful, and is underresourced to boot. I was contacted yesterday by a relatively new ID person, who was in a tough spot.
