Product Review: Plateau TMS (Talent Management System)

eLearning 24-7

I’ll be the first to admit, that I was not a big fan of the previous versions of the Plateau system. After viewing the Plateau TMS, my concerns in one area have been eliminated, in others, not so much. Plateau LMS is a Talent Management System, made up of four modules. Plateau Learning. Plateau Performance. Plateau Career and Succession. Plateau Compensation. Front end (what the end user sees) UI – A giant Kudos to Plateau.

Initially, the conversation was about having learning content appear on the enterprise portal. Many LMS vendors provide portlets, gadgets or widgets that allow for access of learning content (most often meaning courses and courseware) through the corporate portal. It's certainly better than putting a static link to your LMS somewhere on the corporate portal / intranet. Many LMS vendors provide this capability.

If you are seeking TM as your focus and you want one of the big dogs – I found Plateau’s system to offer appropriate functionality for it, but found some real concern in other areas (see my product review). When a vendor I am reviewing or identifying is a client of mine, it will always be noted, as such. LMS Products of the Year 2010.

Drilling down, will provide you with additional information you need to ask and know, and as a result, even when looking at a potential vendor’s site, you will be able to see what they offer in this area. CMSs, learning portals geared only are not on the list. The market continues to grow it is nearly impossible to see every vendor’s latest solution. Additionally, vendors can cease to exist quickly. There are a large number of vendors who support ERP systems, inc. SAP, Peoplesoft, Oracle and HRIS systems; thus if you have one of those systems you are now open to a greater number of vendors, rather then staying with your ERP or HRIS provider.

User Friendly or Hype?

eLearning 24-7

If I am a potential customer, I would expect nothing less to come out of the vendor’s mouth on their product and user friendliness. I have seen over 150 systems, 80 plus authoring tools, dozens of web conferencing products, mobile learning, quiz assessment tools, CMSs and learning portals, and not everyone of them meets those two statements. Learning Management Systems, LCMS, Learning Portals. Plateau Talent Management System. The same with smaller size vendors.

2010: mLearning Year in Review

mLearning Trends

Traditional "e"-learning vendors will all jump into the "m"-learning and social networking spaces with "first generation" offerings they believe will address the mobile requirements of their customers and prospects; these early efforts will prove largely ineffective as evidenced by their many iterative and incremental updates, retries and course corrections. Others vendors will quickly follow/respond. A.K.A. How our January 2010 Predictions Played Out!
