Web Conferencing: Voices from the Underground

eLearning 24-7

Thus, when looking at a “WC&# vendor, your focus must be from the webinar perspective – the training perspective and not from the meeting perspective. Anyway, over the next few weeks, I will be concentrating on what you must have, questions to go along with it, and then the staples of what they all have. Today, I will be focusing on the “record&# application of a web conferencing vendor. Can people view the file on their mp3 player?

Is There a Better Way to Social Learning?

Xyleme

July 21st, 2010 Goto comments Leave a comment Last week, I had the good fortune to speak with George Siemens for an upcoming Xyleme Voices podcast. However, those vendors who rely solely on this argument are very likely to find themselves quickly marginalized. To stay relevant, George believes training vendors should do two things: Stop talking “learning” and start talking “capacity” and “execution” like the rest of the C-suite. Fears of the Course Authoring Tool Market

eLearning 24-7

Long has tools such as Studio and Captivate been on the higher side, the same can be said for vendors such as Rapid Intake and dominKnow. Because other vendors are getting into the act as well. There are more vendors in the LMS space under 10K then in the past – thus meeting the markets’ needs yet the authoring tool space is seeing a spike in prices. Compared to the other big players – dominKnow Claro is a steal.

I believe that you can expect some type of voice capability with the actors/avatars as in the ability to either lip synch with the characters via audio tool/recording tool in the product will show up more in 2013. One vendor already offers it in 2012, and knowing this industry – if something takes off and works, others will follow. One vendor told me they will incorporate it when it becomes certified – uh systems and authoring tools can be certified not a standard.

My latest take on those three vendors (plus one) are: Cornerstone On Demand – I have seen the new UI and I like what I saw. At one time Geo was a dominate player in mid size. I’ve been on web conferencing calls on multiple platforms, and have had the wonderful experience of being dropped, having to download a plug-in that takes too long, hearing the double voice – echo chamber, freezing – on my end and the other end – and some general issues. .

Evolving the E-Learning Experience for the 21st Century

eLearning 24-7

What always stuns me are vendors who state they know what their learners want, but in reality have no clue, because they themselves do not see the technology and its usage among the masses. While there are a couple of vendors out there who have incorporated e-mail that can go to outside to people, rather than just within the learning management product, the overall space isn’t doing it. Web conferencing vendors can establish themselves to expand beyond the meeting standard.

Interestingly, a large portion of LMS vendors have not optimized their products for the iPad/ iPad2 and with the exception of two content authoring tools, HTML5 capabilities, specifically the ability to output a course in HTML5 does not yet exist. Now, we are talking about your base LMS, not their super duper LMS (if they offer such – and not all vendors do). If you want to purchase it, the vendor simply turns it on. Part of the challenge by country, is that for some vendors their HQ is in another country, but then they have an HQ for a certain part of the world, in another country.

Why You Need Audio Descriptions to Make Online Course Videos Accessible

TechSmith Camtasia

There are two main ways to add audio descriptions: Embedded voice descriptions – In this method, audio descriptions are their own separate digital “track,” behind the scenes. Once your video has an audio description track, students can easily turn it on by clicking the AD Track button on the video player. Many of the same vendors who create captions can also create audio descriptions and usually charge about $15-$30 per minute.
