Free xAPI HTML5 Video Player

Learning Dojo

One template that I have been spending some extra time on has been my xAPI HTML5 Video Player. I wanted an easy way for someone who does not know code or xAPI to track a video. So no having to figure out how to use JavaScript and how to send over xAPI statements. I really just wanted a simple way to track video with xAPI. Why not add xAPI to video. Wow, it has been a while since I have written a new post. I have been extremely busy.

eLearning: xAPI is Geek Free and Ready to Go

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Megan Torrance      In my  previous xAPI article  I pointed to the emergence of "geek-free tools and platforms" as the hallmark that xAPI is beginning to achieve main-stream status.   In the 1960s, Dr. Bruce Tuckman proposed a team development model that lends some structure to the conversation about xAPI.   In the early Forming and Storming days of xAPI, there were no off-the-shelf tools that supported it.

xAPI’s Tipping Point for Both Community & Industry

MakingBetter

Since last year, I worked with IEEE to standardize the Experience API (xAPI) specification. Most of my work is with the IEEE-LTSC but recently a few other IEEE standards groups expressed interest in using xAPI. They’re looking at xAPI because it provides a way to share data across devices, related to people, in a way other systems can understand. This is exciting stuff for everyone with a hand in making xAPI what it is. Second, an xAPI Camp is happening.

Can I add a SCORM player to my SaaS platform?

Rustici Software

Can you recommend a SCORM player I can embed into my platform to support our clients? When it comes to adding a SCORM player to your platform, I’d recommend one of the two following products: Rustici Engine. Rustici Engine is a tightly integrated SCORM player that becomes part of your application. SCORM 2003 (2nd, 3rd and 4th Editions), xAPI, cmi5 and AICC. SCORM Cloud is a hosted version of our SCORM player.

The continuum of xAPI questions at ATD TechKnowledge

Experience API

I enjoyed presenting with Margaret Roth of Yet Analytics and Megan Torrance of Torrance Learning at the xAPI Showcase, where we shared examples of what people are doing with xAPI. That provided a good representation of how to connect different xAPI platforms and the differences between LRSs. It was fascinating to see the variety of questions in the xAPI space the days. And xAPI (the specification) shouldn’t have an answer to it.

Webinar Q&A: Empowering Continuous Learning with the Experience API (xAPI)

Experience API

Questions: What is the common identifier that allows the xAPI to connect the data provided by the ‘activity provider’ to a specific user in the LRS? Answer: xAPI allows for learners to be identified by email address, Open ID or an account on some system, such as an LMS. How do you best see xAPI interfacing with an LMS? Which LMS platforms out there today best interface with xAPI? That’s one of the big advantages of xAPI, *anything* can make a statement.

Choosing Mobile Learning Solutions Using Standards

Then came Experience API (xAPI) and CMI5. But they have been able to afford to do that because of the features of HTML5, many of which make the Flash player obsolete. Look at how many people haven’t jumped over to xAPI – and that has been around for a few years. . How many vendors do you know that haven’t yet implemented xAPI?

Taking cmi5 adoption further by developing a Conformance Test Suite

Rustici Software

Over the years, our folks have participated in the working groups for, and the development of, standards as ubiquitous as SCORM, as forgotten as RTWS, and more recently xAPI. In 2010, we were awarded a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) from ADL to modernize SCORM Communication, an effort that became known as Project Tin Can, and ultimately xAPI. This initiative will remove the barrier to entry and obstacles that the DoD and many organizations face when adopting xAPI and cmi5.

TK Chat – Practical Uses of xAPI (Thursday, 9:15-10am). In December, Craig reached out to me with some questions about Learning Record Stores and how they relate to the xAPI specification. Over the holidays, Craig asked me some excellent questions about the history of xAPI, what’s the deal with its name, how does xAPI fare in terms of interoperability, security and privacy… Craig asked straight-up questions and I gave him straight-up answers.

Standard Options Apply

MakingBetter

This post is for vendors, developers and implementers of the Experience API and for anyone who may one day create something with xAPI. The choices made soon will ultimately impact what you will be able to do with xAPI 3, 5 and 20 years from now. This has me reflecting deeply about what kind of future with xAPI we need to enable. However, we have to also be mindful of the billions of dollars to be invested in xAPI going forward. xAPI is about data interoperability.

SCORM vs AICC: how do they compare?

Elucidat

What about xAPI? xAPI (also known as Tin Can) is a much newer set of standards (developed in 2011) that aimed to significantly improve elearning standardization. xAPI works by defining learning activities using “noun, verb, object” statements (for example “Jennifer passed an assessment.”). When a user performs a learning activity, the xAPI activity statement is recorded and stored in a learning record store (LRS).

SCORM: What is it?

Association eLearning

xAPI might be replacing SCORM in the future. As long as you have a working DVD player, you can watch it. In that respect, the LMS is the DVD player. And Blu-rays require a specialized player. You can’t play them in an ordinary DVD player. You can’t play a DVD without a DVD player. What version of SCORM are you using? Is the LMS SCORM conformant? You hear about it in eLearning all the time, but what is it?
