These systems were actually the first practical employee-centric portals. This change in the way we interact with information has made the original LMS paradigm, that of a portal-based online university, increasingly obsolete. I don’t predict the end of big systems like Saba, SumTotal, SAP or any other LMS vendor overnight.

Talk to anyone who has a multi-tenant (multi-portal) platform and immediately they will pitch that they are ideal for any markets including the B2B. One vendor who isn’t on the list, for multitude of reasons, accepts over 25 payment gateways — that is enormous in size for this industry. The stuff people see immediately?

to the expo vendors who forgot to bring any type of product example to the show – this event will go down in history! An additional fee of $700 per day for vendors who wanted to use Wi-Fi, which some vendors found to be spotty at best. SumTotal is coming out with a new UI for their learning module in August.

LMS vendors are continuing to add some very unique features in an effort to set themselves apart from the competition. Desktop sharing (appears with a few vendors). Section 508 (still shocking at the lack of vendors that fail to offer this feature). more common is partnering with a web conferencing vendor). E-Commerce.

Several vendors have left the space, a few have entered. Vendors are hearing us and are making changes. Newest Version – LMS/Learning Portal Directory. Bolded Vendor Names – There are vendors whose names are bolded. This is a global issue and is not limited to the size of the vendor.

Multi-Tenant: Some people refer to it as portals and sub-portals. Native app available in iTunes/Apple and Google (Android) – very few vendors have native apps. If you are someone who is considering some of the bigger dogs like Cornerstone or SumTotal, I would seriously look at these guys. I wish it would.
