PowerPoint is known and primarily used for presentations both big and small (like middle school small) because of how easy it is to learn the basics and create awesome content fast. The simplicity, and sometimes surprising depth, of PowerPoint makes it an amazing platform. When developers create websites or when Instructional Designers develop online content, the first two steps are almost always: Brainstorm and then Storyboard.

Storyboarding an elearning project comes in many forms and processes and is ultimately dictated by the project itself. To that end, storyboarding is not a rule that must be included in every project, rather a process that becomes part of the workflow. Yet, in the tradition of building bulleted lists in PowerPoint, text dominates many eLearning courses. Even if you don't have image editing tools like SnagIt Editor or Photoshop, you can usually edit basic properties in the programs you use to storyboard an eLearning course.
