The title was “Expanding ROI in Training Programs Using Scriven, Kirkpatrick, and Brinkerhoff,” which sounds pretty academic. Implementing his model does not include gathering data that would address program improvement efforts. But it wasn’t. It doesn’t isolate the training effort.

technologies into our training programs, but rarely do we find a client that wants to create a robust learning environment comprised of both formal and informal components. Leaders have to be willing to put some money behind training programs and they have to trust the statistics validating informal and social learning principles.

Simply put, in most cases failed EHRs suffer from the same symptoms that are seen in countless other IT implementations: insufficient staff buy-in, insufficient training, and an ROI that is often slow to make itself apparent. Up until now the effects of these failed implementations have amounted to little more than lost opportunities.

We need to let the stakeholders define their expectations for the program. with a post-test to measure learning for the entire program. This effects workers in northern states more often than in the south so we have made that point abundantly clear throughout the program. Most recently, Ive been working on training programs for the propane industry. Auto-refrigeration is most likely to occur when temperatures outside are low, say below 40 degrees.
