MyUdutu: One of those best kept secrets in e-learning authoring tools

Janet Clarey

I haven’t really used a lot of web-based authoring tools though. Recently, I’ve been exploring collaborative web-based options for a report I’m writing and was reintroduced to MyUdutu (from Udutu). I spent an hour or so with Roger from Udutu looking at their authoring tool and have to say I’m really kind of blown away as to its capabilities. SCORM conformant. But now all that good brain fertilizer from the SCORM 2.0 we build this platform.YouTube for learning.and then we publish the API and people can use the platform and can assign rights using the platform.and others can pull objects thru the API via the platform.now I haven't gotten the iTunes piece figured out yet.but I'd love to see more innovation like this and like Udutu's work in our maket space. Then I went on to show about 12 tools in more detail – some of which would probably make it onto a top ten list (Flash, Captivate, Articulate, and Lectora) – the remaining tools trying to hit at some of the other options out there (Smart Builder, eXe, Udutu, Thinking Worlds, Raptivity, Flypaper, Mohive, and Atlantic Link). After my session at ISPI earlier this week, someone commented that what would have really been useful is a list of the top 10 authoring tools in the market.

The Blackboard SCORM import/export stuff might not be perfect, but at least they try to let people move content out. So, open source Moodle does not export to SCORM, the most prevalent e-learning standard? Its 18 months old, so I did a quick search of the Moodle forums to see what the status of the SCORM export feature is today. Now I’m realizing that it is NOT scorm compliant – moodle can import courses but not export them in scorm.
