Corporate IT is interested in rolling out systems that they can control for security, auditing, back-up and a host of other control reasons. If you have a population of learners who have already adopted tools (such as blogging and social bookmarking) for themselves that are different than the corporate tool (the LMS) do you ask them to move?

tools as part of information sharing: AARF has built interfaces to the bookmarking site del.icio.us , the photo sharing site Flickr , and Digg , a site where members vote on the importance of news stories. It's also free; these interfaces with del.icio.us, Flickr, and Digg require no fees and no permissions.

Instead, we should have used Del.icio.us. The other big hurdle is the question of security. Generally, I think you will find that hosts provide fairly reasonable control, but you will want to check into their security approach. The security issue not new. We had no trouble with our PBWiki.

Social Bookmarking and Wikis and Blogs are a form of social networking I never said this, but several people pointed it out in the chat. The same thing can be true with social bookmarking, wikis, flickr, etc. Using social bookmarking or meme tracking works okay. My wife thinks that's "hilarious."
