Y R Some Vendors confused about e-learning?

eLearning 24-7

Are there vendors in the e-learning space who lack basic understanding around e-learning? Lastly, if the vendors, organizations and firms whose whole background, expertise and existence is tied to e-learning and they themselves are not fully understanding it, does this bode well for the industry as a whole? (I’ll I always tell vendors that they are supposed to be the experts and not the people inquiring about the information. .

And yeah there are vendors who will taut that they are in X list or Y rankings and thus should be included. This isn’t a beauty contest, nor a pay for play (I NEVER accept that, nor play that game, nor do I accept any referral fees or whatever some vendors offer for recommending them). These are vendors who have been around a long time, build share of the market and generally speaking had early name recognition which has helped them in build business.

Questions to Ask Ur Prospective LMS Vendor

eLearning 24-7

Vendors who have partnerships with WebEx or whomever they use, typically require you to purchase a license, which is separate from the system. Many will offer or have the ability to purchase the license for you, rather than you having to go to the vendor themselves and purchase it. Rather, “partner&# is a dual revenue steam for the vendor and their partner – a business relationship deal. If the vendor offers it, they say yes – but here is the twist.

SAAS LMSs and Vendor Client Lists Questions

eLearning 24-7

What is SAAS and why is hosted better than having it on your own servers. The bottom line without getting technical or overly detailed, the solution is hosted on your vendor’s servers and not hosted on your internal servers. So in the case of a LMS/LCMS, it is hosted on your vendor’s servers and can be accessed anywhere there is an internet connection and a browser (that they support), anywhere in the world. Hosted Server Question to Ask.

LMS vendors: R u hearing us?

LMS Vendors. 30% vendors offer at least one type of social media – from my latest LMS directory. Dozens of LMS vendors, had typos on their web pages, zero screens of the system, links that went nowhere and two kicked up my Firewall warning of possible privacy collection and one had a Trojan Horse (I use a hardcore firewall and A/V). Thus, the LMS vendors are creating a Bogeyman – their own bogeyman, and it does not have to be that way. Far too many LMS vendors are stuck in a rut. Oh, excuse me – social networking to most of the vendors who spin it under the guise of social learning.

ROI: Should You Host The LMS or Let the Vendor

Kapp Notes

I have to admit, I lean toward having a vendor host the solution. As an individual in a training or compliance department, what kind of resources do you have at your disposal or within your department to keep your training servers up and running? What money do you have in your budget for server upgrades? Software and hardware upgrades to a server are not trivial. For example, updating just the software on a server can cost upwards of $10,000 a year.

LMS Setup Fees: For some vendors it’s a cash cow

eLearning 24-7

Just as a seriously doubt many of the LMS vendors who feel it is their duty to charge one time setup fees that break your budget bank. At one time they are were all about implementation, since in the early years, 90%+ of implementations were on the client’s servers. Implementation, training, project management and support were common components of a client side server LMS – and huge revenue generators. it sits on your own servers), up to $25,000.

But what you rarely hear, is something I have often been hearing, which isn’t going from any spirit, rather it is coming from some LMS vendors. A good vendor will take that information and apply it to your demo (you want one), inquire for additional questions if needed – after they have had time to review it – post-call; and most importantly as a cornerstone to your pricing. Some vendors will give a range, others won’t. And where to vendors stick it?

LMS Stories – Fantasy or Reality?

eLearning 24-7

As I have noted numerous times, if you listen to vendors, everyone loves their system, they have retention rates in the plus 90%, yet, somehow the number one thing they hear is that people are looking for a new system, they are unhappy with their current system. If everyone is content with your system, and there are 450-500 vendors out there, then how is it, people are leaving? Virtually any vendor will do heavy customization for you – but there are additional costs to it.

E-Learning: Did you know.

eLearning 24-7

I love going to LMS sites and seeing a list of clients that the vendor lists. Especially the LMS vendors who also create custom content/development. That some vendors who provide a list of clients may not be clients of their LMS, rather they are current or past clients of custom course development. Yep, you read that right, and best or worst of all, they (vendor) never tells you, unless you inquiry. For the vendor to achieve success in the demo.

State of the Authoring Tool Industry

eLearning 24-7

Bewildered on what is happening, why what is needed isn’t appearing as it should, and how is it possible that something so obvious based on where e-learning is heading, mobile is pushing and future tech is inspiring is lost among so many vendors? Confusion leads to flushed in terms of causation that some vendors in their infinite wisdom have decided it is better to jump one way than stay the course. I know of one vendor who has a review checker and it works quite well.

This is not (fill in the blank)

eLearning 24-7

The people who suffer the most from this contradiction are the consumers and a vast majority of vendors. If you listen to content authoring tool vendors who have added the capability of HTML5 it is easy to misunderstand what some are saying is not what you assume to be true.
