If the content is building on the slide as the audio plays, consider adding a hidden “skip animation” button at the beginning of your focus order that, when selected, allows the user to skip to the end of the timeline to see the finished content. We thought that there were only so many human beings who wake up early on a Tuesday morning excited to hear a talk about eLearning interoperability standards. We were shocked to see how many people joined Chris Tompkins and Brian Miller on “Our IEEE LTSC voting members recap 2023 and what’s next for the standards” webinar last week.

This is a tell-tale sign of a standard PowerPoint presentation. Set up Slide Masters. Setting up Slide Masters also allows you re-use layouts without the hassle of matching up colors or text and shape positions every time you create a new slide. Crowd the slide. Plus, slide transitions tend to be distracting.

The marketing team should review the course to make sure branding standards were followed. Just because we think a course would be more visually interesting if more images were used on slides, doesn’t mean there is sufficient cause to add them. We have a brand to protect and we need to uphold those standards and manage our image.

When you insert a Standard Object onto a master slide and then apply the master slide to a Filmstrip slide, the Standard Object on the master slide appears on the Filmstrip slide(s). You can see the Standard Object, but you can't select it or edit it.

Elearning today is suffering from standards of the past, from instructional design principles to the tools we use to create the courses. PowerPoint’s linear progression, slide title design, and bullet points have been way overdone. The industry is in desperate need of a new standard.
