Using Twitter For Social Learning

Social learning is making its way into formal education, often on the heals of popular education technology apps. While there are many tools available today that are conducive to social learning, usually the first ones that come to people’s minds are Facebook and Twitter given their mainstream influence in social media. But can Twitter really be used for social learning?

Social Media Libraries for Flash

Upside Learning

As social technology growth continues to march on and dynamic learning grows to be the need of the day, it is little surprise that social media has now become an integral part of learning as well. Various elearning development companies are integrating the popular social media services like Twitter, YouTube etc. These social media elements can also be integrated in the elearning courses or applications developed using Flash technologies.

The Twitter Chat Conundrum (Part One)

Learning Rebels

My name is Shannon and I used to be a twitter chat addict. Seriously, it was nothing to participate on some level in no less than three twitter chats a week. However, there is something happening with the state of twitter chats that is making me less engaged than in years past, and has put me in a bit of a conundrum. In this two-part post, I am going to tackle the biggest issues I feel are affecting twitter chats today. Twitter chats used to make me think.

The Twitter Chat Conundrum (Part Two)

Learning Rebels

Last week our conversation centered around the twitter chat. How twitter chats, in general, may be improved and I have to say the response was great. If CSI can do it, surely we can make it happen in twitter chats? A modern day intellectual salon is how I always viewed twitter chats. However, perhaps now, the twitter chat has become the new silo. “Lurking” (the twitter name for observing a chat without participating) is a good start.

Unearthing Diamonds in Twitter

Dashe & Thomson

First, I have to confess that I am not a Twitter pro. It was only about six months ago that I set up a “business” Twitter account, and I have only a few tweets and followers to my name. My monthly Twitter stats are embarrasing, at best. I’ve had several conversations with colleagues about Twitter that end in “I just don’t get it.” Partly because I haven’t given up (I skim my Twitter feed almost daily).

Social Learning Has Never Been About a Single Tool

It’s not saying social learning is fizzling, it’s saying social learning in the context of eLearning is. What are Social Media-styled eLearning Tools? My first thought is the fad several years ago where rapid development tools were shoving in ways to Tweet from within a course and calling it social learning.
