Key Steps to Preparing Great Synchronous Interactions

Experiencing eLearning

These are my live blogged notes from Karen Hyder’s webinar, Key Steps to Preparing Great Synchronous Interactions from the Training Magazine Network. Synchronous time is “premium time&# : if you just want “chalk & talk,&# just record it and let people watch on their own time. Lecture is a bad use of synchronous online learning. Phone or VOIP–do people have headsets?

Face time

E-Learning Provocateur

We have asynchronous tools such as online discussion forums, synchronous tools such as instant messaging, and semi-synchronous tools such as Twitter. To add voice to the conversation we can use teleconferencing or VoIP. And if you can, organise synchronous sessions, preferably featuring the participants’ voices and faces. My wife and I are studying Foundations of Business Strategy together.

2 Big Considerations When Transitioning to a Virtual Learning Program

This might also include dial-in numbers from phones or VOIP for browsers. To engage learners, use a combination of technology and techniques (asynchronous and synchronous) to create a robust social learning journey for employees.

24 Virtual Training Best Practices to Follow When Shifting to Remote Learning

EI Design

To help you manage this transition to remote learning, I share several Virtual Training best practices you can adopt as you gradually transform your classroom/ILT training to: Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) mode – Delivered in the Synchronous or Asynchronous mode. Introduction.

Learning in 3D Class: Week 4

Kapp Notes

This week's class proved to be exciting as we got a guided tour of ProtoSphere from Erika of ProtonMedia , used the VOIP in Second Life and had a group challenge where teams of students (dressed as fire fighters) cleaned up make believe chemical spills in teams of 4 or 5. Basically, we applied the ADDIE model of instructional design to building a 3D synchronous learning experience. Erika, our guide for ProtoSphere, talks to the group.

Text chat would not be many learners' medium of choice for synchronous communication with their group during a course. and an audio dimension (VOIP or acccompanying teleconference). She wrote the book: Virtual Training Basics Two types of virtual training: webinar vs. classroom One def of virtual training: “an online synchronous instructor led class with participants in dispersed locations, that uses a virtual classroom software program” vILT (virtual instructor led) Step #1: Clarify definitions and expectations. My live notes from Cindy Huggett’s @cindyhugg session at ASTD TK12. She’s been doing virtual classroom since 2001.

Why we need both live and self-paced communication

Clive on Learning

What caught my attention was how this 25-30% was made up, with about 2/3 asynchronous (self-paced) and 1/3 synchronous (live/real-time), although the majority of the non-e-learning elements are synchronous as well, using the traditional classroom. I wondered why it was that we continue to value both synchronous and asynchronous communication and how it came to be this way. Synchronous communication is speedy and responsive; it gets things done right away.

eLearning 24-7

Wishing there was a way to enhance your learning experience, with such products as augmented reality, virtual worlds or VOIP? With more people using VOIP, then ever before the ability to post comments or write documents without having to type on word takes on a whole new approach to learning. VOICE OVER INTERNET (VOIP). I don’t mean to sound dated, but sometimes I use the type of software that installs on my hard drive rather than an online application.

Making Sense Of The iPad For Online Learning

The eLearning Coach

Text chat is an obvious use and VoIP services should work. The iPad then, can be used for audio-based synchronous learning, collaboration, meetings and just-in-time support. The noise about the release of Apple’s iPad has been a bit overwhelming. Were you too busy to read the reviews, analysis and opinions? No problem. I summarized the gist of it in a quick handy dandy rating system focusing on the iPad’s future for online learning.

Did you know that you would need to plant just over 200 trees to offset one year of CO2 emissions for a small PC training room equipped with 20 PCs, 1 laser printer, and 1 photocopier (all ENERGY STAR rated)? I didn’t either. And I was feeling good about the canvas bags I bought for shopping. Here’s some low hanging fruit options for the classroom… o Consider how you can use electronic alternatives to paper.
