#WomenInLearning Series: Vanessa Fludd

March is Women’s History Month, and the theme this year is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.”

To celebrate the stories of women in the learning and development field and multiple education spaces, we reached out to internal and external partners and thought leaders to talk to them about their professional lives and the stories that have inspired them.

At ansrsource, we believe in the power of storytelling to educate, connect, and enrich people’s lives. We are grateful to the women who chose to share their stories with us. We hope you enjoy learning about the women we spoke with as much as we loved speaking with them.

Happy Women’s History Month!

What is your favorite part about working in L&D?

My favorite part about working in L&D is that I get to create experiences that help people move forward, whether it is in their careers or their personal lives. It’s a good feeling to know that the lives of people are positively impacted in some way by what I do.

Who is a woman you looked up to as a child?

My mother is a woman that I looked up to as a child and continue to look up to. She is respectable, strong, smart as a whip, faith-filled, and incredibly caring and kind to those around her. She taught me the value of education and, more importantly, the responsibility I have to use my gifts and talents to be an encouragement and a blessing to others.

What is your favorite story for kids of all ages?

I am particularly fond of fables because of the lessons they teach us. One of my favorites is Aesop’s “The Lion and the Mouse” because it’s a wonderful reminder to never underestimate the might of those whom we may consider small, incapable, unworthy, or less than.

If you could pick one piece of current media to expose your community to, what would it be?

I’m a huge documentary junkie, so I would recommend Netflix’s “Explained” series because I believe it’s important to know something about everything. Continuous learning helps us understand the world around us and gives us the tools we need to respond appropriately when faced with different situations. (It also doesn’t hurt to have something interesting to talk about!)
