Problem with VR 360 Hotspots in Captivate 2019

I created a Blank Project, inserted two 360 slides to it and added hotspots. When clicked, the hotspots should display images. That works in Preview> HTML5 in Browser. However, when I publish the project in HTML5, the images are not displayed when clicking hotspots. See here:

http://dev.keypointlearn.com/xcl76_CP/CP2019/VR_Example/

Then, I started a new project, but this time selected Virtual Reality Project. I add the same 360 image/video, hotspots, etc. The hotspots work in the published content. See here: http://dev.keypointlearn.com/xcl76_CP/CP2019/VR_Example_V2/

Is this a bug?

I also face a problem with the VR functionality. When viewing either SCORM1.2 or xAPI uploaded to a LMS on desktop, everything works fine. However, I can’t make it work on my iPhone SE, running Microsoft EDGE. the interesting thing is that when running the second link provided on the top of this page, it works as expected. How can this be?

Can you tell me how to increase the duration of hotspot appearance while the 360 deg video plays. At this time, the default duration is 0.1 sec which is very less.

You  asked the same question in  separate thread, and I answered there. Please, do not post twice the same question in any user forum. I try to help as many users as possible, but having to answer same question twice is just a loss of time for both of us.

Hi again,

Whenever hotspot is added in a blank project and  published to HTML with “Scalable HTML content” checked, we see great inconsistency with hotspot click area. This is a bug. For now, the simple workaround would be to disable “scalable HTML content” and Publish.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Charu

Doesn’t this defeat the purpose as 360 content would need to be viewed full screen with glasses?

When will Adobe fix this. This is not really acceptable.

I ran across a similar issue with VR 360 hotspots.

On my new projected, I have added hotspots on VR 360 image, it works fine in Preview> HTML5 in Browser. However, the hotspots are not responding  after I publish the project as xAPI and uploaded to LMS.

The Hotspot ‘actions’ are not responding

Later I found that its working fine on Firefox.  Please share if anyone have workaround for this issue.

Thanks

I found a similar bug with images used as 360 hotspots.  The entire image functions as a hotspot when in Preview in HTML mode.  But when the project output is placed on a web server the effective area of the hotspot shrinks significantly such that it is no longer the dimensions of the image used as the hotspot, rather it shrinks into a very small area in the upper left corner of the image.  The attached photo shows my workaround in a recent project.

I ran across a similar (and thus potentially related) bug with my most recent project.  Because of its likely relationship to the bug described in this article, I will post about it here rather than as a separate article.

In my most recent micro-learning module (non-responsive, scalable html output, Win10 generated), I decided to incorporate essentially a “guided” slideshow segment with a simple 360 backdrop.  So this is about a series of 360 slides inserted into a blank non-responsive project.  I used images as the hotspots due to the lack of utility of the canned icon hotspots.  With the canned icon hotspots, you can only present the user with a single piece of info: text OR audio OR photo, but not a combination of information (the 360 hotspots are sorely lacking the ability to execute advanced actions).  Using images as the hotspots, I could present an image with an associated sound file (played at image presentation as the “guided” sequence progressed) as well as a small text blurb when clicked by the user.

Everything worked fine when previewing HTML in browser.  In particular, the entire image being used as a hotspot could be clicked anywhere on the image (no matter the size of the image) to display text and continue the guided sequence.

However, when the output was published to the web server this was no longer the case.  In fact, I found myself clicking 30, 40, 50 or more times on an image just to get the sequence to activate and continue.  I was getting very frustrated with this as I could imagine the frustration of the user as they endlessly clicked on the hotspots with nothing happening.  I was just about to delete all the 360 slides in the project and take a more traditional “lightbox” approach to the slideshow when I stumbled upon what was going on.  What I found was that the image hotspots worked just fine in published output PROVIDED the images were clicked within a small area in the upper left corner of the image.  Thus my workaround was to provide the user with instructions as to where to click the images (see attachment).

So bottom line = In preview mode, the entire image hotspot acts as a hotspot.  But when published to a web server, the entire image is NOT the hotspot as the functional hotspot has been reduced in size during publishing and only occupies a small area in the upper left corner of the image.

Thanks all, I tested this on several PCs and one MAC, with the same result. The ‘clicking-on-the-white-bit) didn’t work for me either. I’ll try Charu’s suggestion.

By the way, on Chrome (v68) on Mac, neither version worked as expected.

Hi KeyPointLearn,

Try clearing the preferences once and relaunch captivate

go to location and click C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 2019 x64\utils\CleanPreferncesWin
Relaunch captivate and try the above steps

Also, you can share your .cptx file via any file hosting service (ike dropbox) for further investigation at captivatehelp@adobe.com

Thanks,

Charu

I tested as well, but couldn’t display any image on the first example. I have used the method indicatedby donalall: clicking on the white part. Except the arrow pointer changing to the hand pointer when clicking (not when hovering) nothing happened. I will double-check on another project. You used Guided as option, but where are the hotspots on the timeline, please?

Hi KeyPointLearnClicking the hotspots worked in both examples (laptop win 10 – Firefox 61.0.2 (64 bit) – no VR headset). In the first example (360 slide) the images were only displayed if i placed my mouse over the white crosshair and clicked. In the second example (VR slide) they were displayed on clicking white crosshair, black area of hotspot, and even clicking a small bit outside the hotspot. So each slide (360, VR) is not consisent on where user needs to click to display images.  I don’t have CP 19 installed so i can’t help you any further.
