Fatal Error after disable Quiz Review checkbox

I’m unable to exit the settings interface with the OK button after disabling the “Allow Review Quiz” in the Publish Settings > Quiz > Settings menu.  I receive a fatal error – popup message that says it “Failed to back up the data”, followed by another popup indicating that Captivate will close and a “.cpBackup” file is created.  This CPTX file was created as a Template first, then customized to show a Quiz Results slide.  However, we are finding in our testing that the review buttons do not navigate forward or back when the Presentation is viewed on most phone browsers, so we decided to turn off quiz review and test.  I am unable to get this feature to turn off in this CPTX without it crashing.  However, a new blank project CPTX seems not to restrict exit from the settings interface after these settings are changed.  Ideas? Is this a bug?

Yes, it is an eLearning course – of course.  I did discover that when the 1280 x 720 stage-sized CPTX was “Rescaled” to 970 x 546, screen objects that were locked in position on the original size did not move to correct position, especially those at the stage bottom (they were off-slide).  In addition, certain buttons in the quiz slides, having multi-states, experienced a problem with all of the states, except the normal one, not moving to the slide with the normal state.  Essentially, all other states were off-slide.  This creates a couple of problems:  1) during playback, buttons will disappear from the slide when moused-over (one’s mouse is not in the correct position over the mouse-over state image off-slide – so the return to normal state never happens when you move your mouse from the now phantom button position), and 2) this could play havoc with turning on or off the review quiz buttons on the slide – perhaps the cause of the fatal crash.  The ability to turn on or off the quiz review returned when I deleted the quiz slides from the CPTX.  I have since rebuilt this CPTX again in the new stage size of 970 x, using New Project, since I wasn’t sure how to deal with the misplaced states of the quiz slide buttons.  Rescale apparently doesn’t work very well with the quiz slide buttons.  Captivate 2019, vers. 11.0.1.266.

I still suspect the issues originated with your ‘template’ but you didn’t confrim if you are indeed using a cptl file, which is the real template file extension?

Either that or upgrading for an older version can be at the base. Especially quiz slides are very sensitive to upgrading, and often lead to problems.

What you tell about state positions: that used to be a problem with the first version including states…. again pointing to an upgrade problem.

Which exact version number do you use?

The CPTX was built from a new project in Captivate 2019, with the first update installed, then rescaled to a smaller stage size.  This CPTX was not made from a .cptl.  The rescale of the CPTX was not complete, especially with the quiz slide buttons, and the quiz results slide also – states other than “normal” appeared off-slide, below in the gray workspace margin, which I did not notice until later.  The exact version of my Captivate installation is in the last sentence of my comment, but here it is again – Captivate 2019, with the first available upgrade installed (vers. 11.0.1.266).

My apologies for repeating a question, forgot to reread the whole thread.

In the original question you clearly talked about a template. Captivate quiz slides are based on a Theme, master slides are part of the theme and are very important in the quiz slides. It is very confusing at this moment.

You talk about phones, does this mean you are working on a fluid boxes responsive project? I assumed it was a non-responsive project because Modify, Rescale would probably lead to problems, since a fluid boxes project assumes that you start with the biggest resolution and rescaling will happen automatically based on the setup of the fluid boxes.

Did you rescale the project’s highest resolution?

I have already said that this project was built from scatch using “New Project”, not a .CPTL.  Don’t let my use of the word “Template” be an encumbrance – what I meant was that we use a CPTX file as our starting point when building our courses – consistency of design that way, with navigation buttons and customizations ON the sample slides – in this semantic sense, it is our “template”.  NO CPTL was involved.  We don’t like fluid boxes, and don’t use them, because we want the mobile user to see exactly the composition and layout that our PC users see – imperative for various technical machine diagrams and such.  So we always use the “Scalable” checkbox in the publish settings, and have our mobile users turn the phone to the horizontal (landscape) orientation.

I think I am done with this thread, as I have rebuilt my “template” in 970 x 546, and that is working fine now.  Thanks for your concern, but I cannot devote any more time to this thread now.

Captivate ins not at all a presentation tool, I think you are making an eLearning course?

The template feature, if you talk about using a cptl-file as base for a ctpx file, is buggy since quite a while. Do not use that feature anymore until it is fixed. For design reasons (including the master slide) you only need a custom theme, not a template.

Which version do you use (full version number please, as found under Help, About Captivate).

Quiz Preferences are part of the Preferences. Was that template updated from an older version?
