Ode to the naysayers

Don’t tell me why I can’t.

Tell me how I can.

  1. Yes! Yes! I am so tired of going to meetings and hearing the naysayers say “We can’t do that”, “That won’t work”. When I get fed up and say, then instead of telling me what we can’t do, tell me what we can!”, I get the deer in the headlight look from my colleagues. It takes forever to move things forward if you always listen to naysayers. I do believe they have their place. They force you to look at the obstacles and barriers that need to be overcome to move forward, however, they must realize that the next step is to determine what to do to remove or limit barriers.

  2. I totally agree, Mary. Safekeeping (or the black hat) certainly has its place, but not at the expense of innovation and progress. It suits some people a little too much to keep things at the status quo.
