I recently ran into an issue in captivate for a project we published in .swf. With the end of life of swf and more browsers locking out swf files, I have been forced to find a solution a little quicker than anticipated after our IT department made a change earlier than expected. This was the only outstanding project on my list to update and had been sidelined for a little later this quarter.
I recreated the animation in after effects and photoshop and created a gif that works wonderfully in my test environment. The gif size is 696kb and I also created an mp4 video version (3.42 megs) in size.
What is puzzling to me is when I import the gif into the Captivate 2019 project it converts it to a 23meg file size.
I thought about clearing cache and trying to republish to check there was nothing else in play but it again came out at that size. I am curious if anyone has noticed this and if anyone has had an issue with this before?
Animated GIF’s do work for me, but as I told I only used Photoshop to create them and there are some limitations. The frames need to have a duration of at least 0,1secs, and GIF’s created using masks are not working well. I have not tried to use After Effects to create animated GIFs.
For OAM’s you can use Animate CC (formerly Flash Builder) which allows to publish to that format. I regret a lot that Edge Animate is no longer developed, because it was a lot more user friendly and sufficient for small animations whereas Animate CC has too many bells and whistles.
