5 Benefits of Blended Learning

Since the rise of elearning, learners and instructors alike now understand the value of flexible teaching methods. Certain instructors, learners, and course concepts are better suited for either online or in-person instruction. Both formats have their advantages, but you don’t have to choose between one or the other.

Blended learning, also referred to as “hybrid learning,” is an approach that mixes instructor-led classroom experiences with online content that learners review outside of the traditional classroom. Live instruction can take place face-to-face or online, if there is any live instruction at all. By combining virtual and online learning approaches with in-person instruction, blended learning models deliver the best of both worlds.

Educators reap a number of benefits from using an innovative approach like blended learning, including increased efficiency, individualized content, easier access for learners, and decreased expenses. Let’s explore five of the central benefits of using a blended approach to teaching and training so you can see for yourself how well blended learning can work for you.

1. Time efficiency

Time is on your side with blended learning. Instructors can save time through blended learning in several ways. For example, they can automate several tasks, such as drip content, quizzes, grading, and feedback. When you automate quizzes and tests, learners benefit from immediate feedback.

Plus, educators can share content before an in-person class so learners can focus on discussion and questions during class meetings. Furthermore, learners don’t have to sit in class if they’re done with the lesson or assignment; they can move on at their own pace.

Blended learning allows learners to complete certain sections of training using online resources, incorporating a variety of different learning approaches, which allows instructors to tailor curriculum to their learners’ core learning style.

2. Lower costs

There are many costs associated with in-person, traditional classroom instruction, such as travel, transportation, lodging, and meals. There are also the physical resources associated with in-person instruction, like upkeep and maintenance of facilities and utilities to support large groups.

Since some (or all) class content can be delivered asynchronously online, you do not need to physically provide the resources necessary, from the actual desks the students sit on to printed material. Instructors can lower costs and increase overall return on investment with a blended learning model.

3. Individualized learning

All students learn in different ways. Blended learning allows you to offer more material in a variety of formats so students learn at their own pace and experience different learning styles.

Blended learning usually offers another avenue for personalized learning: Instead of waiting to speak during an in-person session, learners can receive feedback, make comments, or reach out directly.

Blended learning can also provide the learner with a variety of media — pictures, videos, podcasts, and games — that appeal to all senses. Through such media, the learning process becomes fun and engaging for learners, and the instructor has the flexibility to choose the best materials for each lesson.

4. Accessibility and flexibility

Blended learning means increased flexibility and adaptability on multiple fronts. Not all learners can readily attend in-person classes and training. Blended learning allows those learners to access materials if they miss a class.

Also, some learners prefer printed materials, while others prefer digital formats. As we mentioned earlier, blended learning allows you to offer both. With digital materials, learners can access materials at any time, anywhere, even after the course is complete.

With blended learning, instructors have more flexibility with what materials they want to create and share, what in-person learning focuses on, and so much more.

5. Higher engagement and retention

Any educator should be concerned with engagement and retention. Blended learning offers multiple ways for learners and instructors to engage, like in-person or online discussions and group activities.

Blended learning also provides a wider variety of tools and resources to enhance the learning experience. Learners are more likely to stay motivated with the accessibility and flexibility and individualized learning, so they will retain the information and complete the course or training at a higher rate.

Enhance the learning experience with blended learning

All educational settings, from traditional classrooms to training programs, could benefit from blended learning. The advantages of this innovative approach to teaching include saving money, improving retention, and delivering a course as efficiently as possible.
