We’ve added another acronym to the list of content types SCORM Cloud supports. The SCORM Cloud API is officially a certified LTI 1.3 platform, which means you can now consume or integrate LTI 1.3 tools into your application alongside your SCORM, AICC, xAPI and cmi5 content and MP4 and PDF files. SCORM Cloud has long been an LTI 1.1 certified tool through the Dispatch feature to share content out to LTI platforms, so adding this capability means that you can also consume LTI tools for delivery and tracking in your application. Whether you want to become an LTI platform or need your content to work with LTI platforms, SCORM Cloud has you covered!

Need an example?

In case it’s still not clear how SCORM Cloud works with LTI, let’s look at a couple of examples. We know it can get confusing (you should see our Slack thread about this very topic!).

SCORM Cloud as an LTI Platform

Let’s say you already use the SCORM Cloud API in your application to support customers who need to play and track SCORM content they’ve built in-house with an authoring tool. But they also use a content library that is available via LTI 1.3. With the added support for LTI, you can now operate as an LTI Platform, integrating LTI tools into your application alongside SCORM, xAPI and other types of content. Want to know more? Here’s how to use SCORM Cloud as an LTI Platform.

SCORM Cloud as an LTI Tool

On the flipside, if you have SCORM, xAPI or cmi5 content that you want to share with customers that have an LMS that prefers content to be ingested via LTI, SCORM Cloud Dispatch is the feature for you. Using Dispatch, you can share your courses – hosted in SCORM Cloud – out to LTI platforms as an LTI Tool, even if they are SCORM or another standard that your customer’s LMS doesn’t support. Here’s how to get started.

The best of both ‘worlds’

Adding LTI support to the SCORM Cloud API is just the most recent addition of LTI support in our products. When it comes to the standards, you’ll often hear us talk about using the right tool for the job to be done. One size doesn’t fit all- each standard has its pros and cons and anchoring to one often results in frustration and disappointment. Whether you are an LMS seeking to become a certified LTI Platform/Tool Consumer or have an application or content library that you want to integrate with LMSs using LTI, we have you covered.
