Three Instructional Game Design Resources

Here are three online resources that can help you to think about developing an instructional game.

First Resource
Here are slides from Talib Hussain of Raytheon BBN Technologies. The slides are from a workshop and walk you through the process. I particularly like the “Mechanics” slides. Listed are Goal Mechanics, Story Mechanics, Guidance Mechanics, Interaction Mechanics, and Feedback Mechanics. These slides are near the end but are very interesting and helpful as you think about game mechanics. Here is a link to Hussain’s slides.

Second Resource
Here are slides Sharon Boller and I presented at ASTD 2013 ICE conference.

We are doing the same presentation on August 28th. For details click here.

Third Resource
Here is a video of a webinar by Allen Interactions own Ethan Edwards called Integrating Game Design Principles into Instructional Design for e-Learning Webinar.

So if you are thinking of creating an instructional game, these resources can help.
