Boutique shops for custom course development were springing up faster than you could say Sock Puppet (Pets.com). You added “objects” ADDIE (developed for everything but e-learning) was tapped. I went with a Hybrid form of ADDIE. Macromedia Dreamweaver came out with templates. Storyboards were common.

Most of it came, via 3rd party providers, or what we referred to as “boutique shops” – think custom development (fee-based) that someone, company, government, institution, and so forth hired to create a course or courses. Could someone create a course at said company? BB dominated. Yep, readily available.

PowerPoint is for Presentations, not for creating an e-learning course or as part of your course development. Then Dreamweaver, a tool for designing web sites, rolled out templates for course building. Just because it exists – readily available for creating a course with it – i.e. PPT, doesn’t mean you should. .

Eventually the land saw Macromedia Breeze and Dreamweaver enter the lands, with these items called templates. And there were now more people creating courses including those with interactions, learning objects, engagement – ahh, life was good. Someone was sort of listening. It was a sight to behold.

Christy uses HTML, Dreamweaver, and sess Flash in her future. My company creates customized course development templates for organizations. Course developers (who may or may not be instructional designers) use Flash to create courses, but they dont need to know how to use Flash at all. -- Kineo Moodle f.
