Strange, since I could find no evidence, no information from multiple research standpoints, that Microsoft pitches it an authoring tool. Yes, you can use it for many different things, and yes, Microsoft has an add-on that turns PPT into something similar to Adobe Presenter. 2004 (3rd edition) included. Output to HTML5.
