SCORM’s premise, not what it can or cannot do, was its huge premise of interoperability—far more so than AICC. Paul is the SVP of Business Development at dominKnow, a world-class authoring tool that has AI built into it. In the late 80s, AICC, the predecessor to SCORM, was born. Why would anyone still want to use AICC?

For instance, you could track only certain details such as who took your course, when they took the course and what was their score. Instead of looking at learning data as a bunch of numbers of who took the course and how much they scored, Tin Can would focus on learning experiences. One of it was the lack of an in depth-report.

Version 1.2 If you want to add score or status or other user-specific data to your database, it’s pretty straight-forward. Isn’t it nice to know that we have options to deliver what the business needs beyond the systems we have in place already? It collects all of the possible SCORM 1.2 and 2004 course data as it can handle.

We are developing a SCORM or AICC compliant course either custom or using an authoring tool. And we run into the same tough situation each time: If there's an integration issue, like the score or completion is not getting set appropriately, we want to be able to make changes to the course to try to fix it.

Thankfully, they scored very high elsewhere, otherwise – “well…” Curation, Playlists, Skills, Job Roles (if applicable) – how can they be intertwined or at least utilized to gain maximum efficiency and usage by each learner. Ditto when you buy a system that is SCORM 1.2
