Podcasts are fairly easy for anyone to make and with the free downloadable software, Audacity , it becomes an inexpensive option. Users can record and edit audio with Audacity and it runs on most operating systems, including Mac OS X and Windows. Dimdim has an open source version so developers can integrate it with other software.

Audacity is an audio recording and editing application with a lot of the features you find in commercial products. The publisher provides a list of sites where you can download the application. Open Office. I keep hearing good things about Open Office. I like this for uploading and downloading files to and from FTP sites.
