That’s a bit like what was happening in the e-Learning community before SCORM was established. The lab combined the work of existing standards organizations like the AICC , IMS and the IEEE LTSC into a cohesive reference model. Lectora® Inspire is compliant with SCORM and AICC.

They continue to contribute much to the specification effort (open source code libraries in many languages. IEEE also specifies USB and WiFi and a host of other standards we take for granted but help ensure things “just work” as expected. The community is all working on that together. There is one specification: xAPI.
