Around the Rustici office, it’s fairly common to hear that eLearning standards move at a glacial pace. The IEEE board approved “ IEEE 9274.1.1-2023 Vendors had already implemented the most common authorization strategies and were able to add whatever strategies they needed to satisfy customer requests.

In 2003, the eLearning startup I worked for shuttered its doors as our customers moved to adopt SCORM, and we had no idea how to do that. They conducted one-on-one interviews with many eLearning professionals. I’m the chair of the part of the IEEE-LTSC (Learning Technology Standards Committee) that is looking at standardizing xAPI.
