Why are some vendors making it impossible? Why are some vendors treating you as a spy or something sinister when you just want to try out the product? Just in the past two years the per license cost of authoring tools has skyrocketed. Long has tools such as Studio and Captivate been on the higher side, the same can be said for vendors such as Rapid Intake and dominKnow. Because other vendors are getting into the act as well. 1,799 – per license. So why the fear?

How about – Litmos actually skinning the product themselves – as the majority of vendors do – at no additional charge or more simple click customization options. You also have the option to go monthly for 2K USD – but that is NOT for unlimited licenses. The same with LMS administrators. But, still – yowsa!

The authoring tool vendors will say their products are for everyone. Or the demand from themselves, the vendors. SCORM compliant learning object generator, customized editing interface, web based media player that works across multiple platforms, video/audio, image slides, text synchronization. Bottom Line. The demand from developers?

Bewildered on what is happening, why what is needed isn’t appearing as it should, and how is it possible that something so obvious based on where e-learning is heading, mobile is pushing and future tech is inspiring is lost among so many vendors? And therein lies one of the issues, that is showing up with many, many vendors.
