It is the holiday season and for those who see me as the grinch (okay a few vendors do, but I digress) here is a special post. Next week, 12-12-12, will be #10 to #1 learning management systems for 2012. While their UI is very user friendly, they really haven’t done much in terms of new cool features in 2012.

Compliance management, certification management. surveys/assessments, e-commerce, transcripts, ad-hoc reporting and the other standards in the industry (90/10). M-learning support, assignment grader can be offline and then re-synched online, but courses can not be online/offline. 4 IMC-AG Clix Learning Suite.

For the past month, I have been conducting a survey on learning platforms and specifically learning management systems. . The data shows that what many vendors assume end users want is far from accurate. Too many vendors are focusing on talent/performance management as the next feature/component in their systems.

CBT Prior to online learning known then as WBT, and then the latter term of e-learning (vendors today, use it to refer to content that is online), there was CBT. CBT was the “new” and exciting way to learn. Were there folks overseeing compliance, in charge of the LMS, sure. Again, that is it.

For each of these items in e-learning. In 2012 it has been all about collaborative/peer review with authoring products, and it still will be in 2013, but the avatars/actors with/without backgrounds are going to be in “fuego” Where can it go? In 2012, I’ve seen a slow uptake with tools that can output to HTML5.

SCORM compliance and/or AICC – there are tools out there who support neither – but that is not the norm and there are a few tools out there who also support PENS. Multiple learning paths or branching. One will be named – Best Course Authoring Tool of 2012. One will be named – Newcomer of the Year 2012.
