Adobe Presenter, one of the key rapid authoring tools in the Adobe eLearning suite , will be releasing an important product update in the next few weeks. Paresh Kharya, the PM for Adobe Presenter, has covered some of the key highlights of this release in his post on the Connect User Forum. eLearning: Adobe Captivate and Microsoft PowerPoint

before answering that, let's rework that classic question with this: what comes first, the eLearning or the PowerPoint presentation? I'm not going to get into what it takes to create visually compelling PowerPoint presentations (we have a  mini course for that ). Earlier this year I wrote an article teaching you how to take PowerPoint content and create  eLearning using either TechSmith Camtasia Studio or Adobe Presenter.

Adobe eLearning suite consists of a set of products along with Adobe Captivate 4 and Adobe Presenter 7 using which you can create any kind of eLearning courses. You can still use them inside Adobe Captivate and other products in eLearning suite. For example - Files created in Articulate® Presenter can be opened and edited in Adobe Presenter.

Yes, you can use it for many different things, and yes, Microsoft has an add-on that turns PPT into something similar to Adobe Presenter.
