The RCAT (rapid content authoring tool) market continues to be healthy with nothing to slow it down – uh, except maybe one thing (more on that later). I am still surprised on how vendors who are offering assessment only tools are staying in the game. Will it attain mass adoption – I doubt it.

As the rapid content authoring market continues to grow, new features and capabilities are equally growing. There are 124 authoring tools in my latest directory, of which 30 are SaaS or a combination of desktop and SaaS – which really what is the point of that? SaaS: Software is in the cloud, on the internet.

For the rest of us, it isn’t, unless you see the latest takeaways as examples of what is to come or more importantly what hasn’t – which is really a could be doomsday to many vendors – unless they wake up! Authoring Tools. In my newest directory, I have 138 vendors. 37 support m-learning.

Backup your computer’s hard drive – used by early adopters, but the general mass wasn’t using it for this reason. Content authoring tools that have to be used on the desktop of your cpu, no longer is required. Web conferencing vendors can establish themselves to expand beyond the meeting standard.

They involved talent management, “hello and goodbye” with vendors, social learning, upswing in mobile learning, new feature sets in the authoring tool space, flat lining in web conferencing and standalone platforms. LMSs/LCMS/CMS/learning platforms in commercial and open space continued their presence.

For each of these items in e-learning. Authoring Tools. In 2012 it has been all about collaborative/peer review with authoring products, and it still will be in 2013, but the avatars/actors with/without backgrounds are going to be in “fuego” Where can it go? E-Learning in General.

Why have a virtual classroom that in essence is a web conferencing tool where you “aren’t really there”? I’m a major early adopter. Create your own app to use with the product, from a “how to” to “software tutorial” to “interactive real life scenarios”, etc.
