With the growth of tablet devices, authoring tools are having to re-invent themselves, yet again. It’s nothing new —just another step in the continual evolution we’ve seen since the early 1990s, when authoring tools were first introduced to help eLearning professionals create and deliver learning.

While Captivate is great for software simulations, I think Articulate is better for soft skills projects and tying the whole thing together. Because Captivate and Articulate have unique qualities you may come across the situation where you want the best of both worlds by using the two programs together.

I got a question (and you know I love questions): We are being asked to use Adobe Captivate on a project. However, this project doesn't involve ANY simulations, demonstrations, or scenario-based training. We'll make the slides fun with graphic effects and movies, but that doesn't change the slide model. What do you think?

Microsoft has some really nice starter templates to help you organize your learning project. After you do a few projects, you’ll feel more comfortable branching out from the templates and applying your own unique approach. The author has good before and after examples. Play Around with the Software.

During this years DevLearn 2011 conference I won the DemoFest award for the Software Systems Training category. Why was this project needed? Staff required training on using the new application interfaces and learning how to complete Office tasks that have changed in the new and updated Office software. Privacy Policy.

These tools didn’t get their start in 2007. Articulate Presenter was around well before eHelp (one of the leading companies) was purchased by Macromedia that was purchased by Adobe. In fact, eHelp licensed Articulate Presenter for their own RoboPresenter product. Understand the types of tools on the market.

I’ve recently been working on a couple of courses in Articulate, a rapid authoring tool in which you can build professional online instruction and interactions such as multi-response, in Engage, Presenter and Quizmaker. Articulate isn’t part of the ‘rapid authoring tool’ family for nothing.
