I was just asked about trends in open source for eLearning and particularly open source eLearning tools. You can find a long list of tools broken into authoring tools, games/simulations, quiz/test tools, social media, delivery platforms, tracking and whether they support mobile. Here’s some of what I pulled out.

Podcasts are fairly easy for anyone to make and with the free downloadable software, Audacity , it becomes an inexpensive option. Users can record and edit audio with Audacity and it runs on most operating systems, including Mac OS X and Windows. Dimdim has an open source version so developers can integrate it with other software.

Audacity is an audio recording and editing application with a lot of the features you find in commercial products. Open Office. I keep hearing good things about Open Office. It’s open source software, yet actually has some Help documentation. Free, open source and all that good stuff. DOCUMENT CREATION.
