Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. Mobile Learning/HTML5 output – doesn’t hurt and has to be considered. I’ve seen some authoring tools that fit most of the criteria above, but whose ease of use is substandard or even really bad.

As the rapid content authoring market continues to grow, new features and capabilities are equally growing. There are 124 authoring tools in my latest directory, of which 30 are SaaS or a combination of desktop and SaaS – which really what is the point of that? SaaS: Software is in the cloud, on the internet.

What I found was a solution that is a rapid e-learning authoring tool that offers easy to use functions as uploading learners and basic tracking results. A course dashboard that offers some intuitiveness and simple to use, with easy to follow tools. Each PowerPoint slide appears in order, following your PPT order.

Growth Engineering LMS – #1 in my Top 50 and their launch of Genie, their authoring tool which comes with the system, but can also be a stand alone. Basically, you can add your PPT, MP4, assessment, word docs, etc. This is their authoring tool. Oh, it is a SaaS only system, hosted on Amazon servers.
