As the rapid content authoring market continues to grow, new features and capabilities are equally growing. There are 124 authoring tools in my latest directory, of which 30 are SaaS or a combination of desktop and SaaS – which really what is the point of that? SaaS: Software is in the cloud, on the internet.

When a Course Authoring Tool Built-In is not a Free Built-In. I have seen this with a couple of vendors and thought to myself, are they kidding me? That said, I have to say I was in shock when I found out that Topyx LMS by Interactyx is offering their built in course authoring tool as a FEE based solution and not free.

As the evolution of e-learning continues, the rapid content authoring tools (RCAT) market follows suit. This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. It was difficult to say the least and learning it wasn’t much easier. Adobe Captivate. Rapid Intake.

True, some of these companies and vendors can win multiple awards, so that reduces the actual number of winners, but if this is not an example of over saturation, I don’t know what would constitute it. I recall that I gave out awards to “Rapid Content Authoring Tools” and “LMSs” One category had multiple winners.

Vendors who improved their customer service significantly including adding extensive multilingual support for their web site, products. Vendors who dumped desktop apps and went into the “cloud” – thank you, thank you. Vendors who provide Mac OS support for their desktop content authoring tools.
