Back when I first started developing e-learning courses, I used Macromedia's Authorware. For more interactive elements, I used Flash and imported the SWFs into Authorware. Of course any sims developed in Captivate (also SWF files) can easily be included, or launched from, a course developed with Flash.

Adobe shows off Captivate 4 and the Adobe eLearning Suite

It has long been known that we can add Flash video and interactive swf content into Captivate, but doing so is not as simple as we would like, and there is no easy way to communicate data between the imported content and the host Captivate movie. Second, Adobe has introduced Widgets to Captivate 4.
