Ability to save your courses so you don’t freak out about losing courses that exist on a server other than your own. Can also be installed on your server. Semi-complex branching.

As I write this, my Adobe Updater program is busy installing the latest updates to my Adobe Creative Suite 3. With an online authoring tool, on the other hand, your data is on the vendor's server, in a proprietary database format, and you are pretty well snookered if the vendor calls it a day.
