Use of PowerPoint in rapid content authoring tools – this has been a big irritant of mine, since the days when PPT first made its appearance in rapid content authoring tools. Some vendors use chapter-page approach with PPT, but there are plenty who do not (why?). Even with just content only – like PPT or video files.

PowerPoint still reigns – If you are a course purist, the idea that PPT should be seen as an authoring tool should make you grumble with disgust. . Yes, you can use it for many different things, and yes, Microsoft has an add-on that turns PPT into something similar to Adobe Presenter. PowerPoint is presentation software.

Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. Yes, it offers the social learning authoring features – robust actually, which most vendors in this space does not, but it has added task management and PENS. #7 Includes assessments, simulation capability and wizards.

If you are wondering if the “publish once to all” means the vendor is using PENS, the answer is no, they are not using PENS. . However, I think every SaaS authoring tool vendor should use PENS. . Claro by dominKnow – Strong player, who IMO got sidetracked for a bit. . First AT vendor to use PENS.

In the authoring tool world: PowerPoint focused authoring tool, Basically you know PPT, love it and want the ability to build within it and then convert your PPT to a Course. 2004, AICC, PENS, TinCan) would be equally relevant. In the housing world that would be whether you want a townhouse, apt., condo, house, etc.
